Learning Objectives

  1. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    1. Explain the core principles of NeuroMassage and how they apply to clients with neurological conditions, specifically Motor Neurone Disease.

    2. Identify key anatomical structures and dermatomes relevant to massage therapy for clients with compromised nervous and muscular function.

    3. Recognise contraindications and high-risk scenarios in clients with MND, and adapt or withhold treatment appropriately in line with safe practice.

    4. Support client welfare with confidence, maintaining dignity, consent, emotional safety, and trauma-aware communication throughout the session.

    5. Assess and maintain skin integrity, understanding common skin vulnerabilities in people with MND and applying appropriate protective measures.

    6. Describe the causes, types, and progression of Motor Neurone Disease and understand how it affects motor function, respiration, communication, and mobility.

    7. Interpret how MND may present in clients with varied symptoms, emotional responses, and needs—and adapt massage sessions accordingly.

    8. Apply learning to real-world scenarios by analysing and responding to a detailed MND case study, demonstrating clinical reasoning and ethical decision-making.

    9. Promote NeuroMassage services ethically and responsibly, with appropriate language, safety messaging, and awareness of scope, when working with clients who have MND or complex needs.
